Class Description

Private Instruction for the following instruments

Voice, Piano, Guitar, Bass, Woodwind & Brass and Drums.

(Performing on instruments and voice, learning a wide varied repertoire of music)

 

  • Warm-ups: with scales, reading technical exercises, breathing techniques, stretching etc. 

  • Listening to, rehearse, read, analyze or transcribe, selected music pieces for auditions, competitions, performances, showcase and/or special events.

  • Work on techniques to push and enhance abilities by way of Demonstration; address tone quality, utilizing proper embouchure for Brass & Woodwinds instruments for best playing positions, proper posture, breathing techniques, articulation, and appropriate percussion technique. 

  • Practice etiquette/Rehearsing: dynamic expression, style, blend and balance, steady tempo, rhythmic accuracy, intonation etc. Demonstrate all performance skills “at-sight” performance of music literature at the appropriate level.

  • Music and it's purpose: Why We Record

  • The Recoding Process, 

  • Sound, Audio Signal and flow, and Studio Acoustics; Learning to get the best sound out of your home studio.

  • MIDI Sequencing and Programing with some of the worlds most leading softwares (Ableton Live, Pro-Tools, Logic Pro, Garage Band, Reason, Cube base etc.)

  • How to stay on the cutting edge of music production; Listening, analyzing and describing music, techniques, meter, tempo, tonality and patterns. Compare and contrast musical works based on genre and culture. 

  • Effects and Signal Processors; How to operate and work EQ's, Filters, Compressors, Limiters, Gates, and Reverbs to enhance the sound of your Production.

  • Basic Preparation for Mixing and Mastering; How to properly prepare your music after it has been recorded for Mixing or Mastering. 

 

(Music Business)

  • Music Publishers and What They Do

  • Copyrights: The Law and You; Copyright Registration, Recording a Copyrighted Song, Duration of Copyrights, Transfer of Copyrights Copyright Infringement and Work For Hire.

  • How to become a part of a Performing Rights Organization and why. (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC)

  • Music, Money, and the Recording Artist; Recording Artists Royalties, Advances and how they work, 

  • Managers and Agents; What They Do

  • Recording Labels and what that means in Today's Reality (Now Normal) and how to publish your music on all digital platforms.

  • Contracts; Learn to do Analysis of Recording, Management, and Publishing Contracts

  • When To See A Music Attorney

 

(Song Writing)

  • The Sketching Stage; The Thinking Before the Writing, Who are we talking too, What are we trying to convey, and to what audience, 

  • Lyrics; Starting the Writing Process, Refining the Writing Process, 

  • Writing a Melody, The Shapes of Melodies, adding Chords with the Melody.

  • Song Structure/Form; Verses, Choruses/hooks , Bridges, Vamps etc.

  • Listen to and analyze the writing styles of other well established song writers and composers within there respective genres.
