RISE

Class Description

Principle Instrument(Class)

  • (Voice, Piano, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Brass/ Woodwinds and Drums) 

  • Warm-ups: with scales, reading technical exercises, breathing techniques, stretching etc. 

  • Listening to, rehearse, read, analyze or transcribe, selected music pieces for auditions, competitions, performances, showcases and/or special events.

  • Work on techniques to push and enhance students by way of Demonstration; address tone quality, utilizing proper embouchure, singing/playing positions, posture, breathing techniques, articulation, and appropriate percussion technique. 

  • Recognize the following ensemble skills through performance of selected music pieces.

  • Practice etiquette/Rehearse: dynamic expression, style, blend and balance, steady tempo, rhythmic accuracy, intonation etc. Demonstrate all performance skills “at-sight” performance of music literature at the appropriate level. 

 

Music Theory 

(Learning, Reading and Notating Music)

  • Identify and define standard notation symbols for pitch, rhythm, dynamics, tempo, articulation, and expression. 

  • Define and describe key signatures and other musical terms incorporated in sheet music. 

  • Demonstrate beats as well as rhythms and meters through a systematic counting procedure.

  • Understanding Chord structures, Scales and Chord Patterns.  

 

Ear-training

(Skills and Techniques/Performance) 

  • Singing, alone and with others, solfege exercises. 

  • Sing to recognize fundamentals of Chord tone production. 

  • Sing to match pitch through call and response (diatonic intervals, major and minor keys).

  • Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments 

 

Rhythm & Groove

 (Creating) 

  • Improvise rhythmic patterns by clapping, singing, or playing an instrument.

 (Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines) 

  • Compose rhythmic exercises and short melodies using traditional notations which 

    incorporate use of dynamics. 

 (Critical Analysis/Transcribe) 

  • Listening to, analyzing, and describing music 

  • Identify and describe compositional devices, techniques, meter, tempo, tonality and patterns.  

  • Compare and contrast musical works based on genre and culture. 

 

Ensemble 

(Combined Group Class of all Principal Instruments)

  • Performing alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music

  • developing the ability and discipline to play or sing with one or more people together as one band

  • Identify the influence of music on society and society’s influence on music within a given time period.

  • How to stay on the cutting edge of music production; Listening to, analyzing, and describing music Identify and describe compositional devices, techniques, meter, tempo, tonality and patterns. Compare and contrast musical works based on genre and culture.
